Supervising First Aid for Mental Health

LEVEL 3 AWARD (RQF) – 2 DAY COURSE

This 2-Day course covers in detail a wide range of mental health conditions, including; PTSD, self-harm, suicide, eating disorders, personality disorders, bipolar disorder, psychosis, schizophrenia, depression and anxiety. As well as the support and help provided by healthcare professionals.

Learners will be provided with the knowledge to identify suspected mental health conditions, the skills to start a conversation and be able to signpost towards professional help.  It also includes the effects of drugs and alcohol, incorporates the First Aid for Mental Health Action Plan and covers ways in which a positive mental health culture can be supported within a workplace.

This course is suitable for people working at supervisor or managerial level within the workplace, or individuals who wish to develop a more detailed understanding of a variety of mental health conditions. Candidates must be a minimum of 16 years of age.

Assessment & Certification

This is a fully regulated course (First Aid Awards Ltd) and is approved by Ofqual. Successful candidates will receive a Level 3 (RQF) Award in Supervising First Aid for Mental Health, subject to successful assessment.

Assessment includes practical scenarios and questioning (open and multiple-choice).

There is no expiry of the qualification, but annual refresher training is recommended.

Cost of the Course

The cost of the course is £180 per candidate. This includes course delivery, certification, course book, lunch and refreshments on both days & free use of Barons Fitness Centre gym.

Where an organisation’s risk assessment of First Aid needs identifies that there is a requirement for Emergency First Aid at Work practitioners, then this national Award in Emergency First Aid at Work satisfies the requirements of the regulatory body for First Aid – the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

All learners will have the skills and knowledge to provide an organisation with Emergency First Aider’s that can provide treatment to their casualties in a prompt, safe and effective manner.

A range of subjects are covered including:

• Responsibilities and reporting • Resuscitation and AED awareness • Burns • Assessment of the situation • Anatomy • Choking • Dealing with an unresponsive casualty • Minor injuries • Epilepsy • Basic hygiene in First Aid • Bleeding control • Shock

 Assessment & Certification

Practical assessment is ongoing by the instructor, and a three-year qualification will be issued to those who satisfy the criteria. In addition, the HSE strongly recommend that all students undergo an annual refresher programme of three hours.

Cost of the Course

The cost of the course is £75 per candidate. This includes certification, a course book for each person, as well as a light lunch and refreshments.

First Aid awareness course for parents or grandparents. If you have children? or help to look after your grandchildren? and you are concerned you would not know what to do in an emergency, then this two-hour course is perfect for you.

This is a practical course which will give you the confidence and skills to handle childhood emergencies. The course will cover a wide range of topics for both children and infants: CPR & use of an AED, choking, recovery position, burns, seizures & febrile convulsions, septicaemia and wounds & bleeding.

Assessment

This is a non-regulated course and attendance is all that is required. It is a relaxed and informal course aimed to build confidence and awareness.

Cost of the Course

The cost for the two hours is £18 per person. Tea, coffee & biscuits included.

Paediatric First Aid

LEVEL 3 AWARD (RQF) – 2 DAY COURSE, 27TH &28TH AUGUST 2019, 9.30AM – 5PM

The qualification is designed for learners with a responsibility for the care of children and babies on a professional level. The purpose of the qualification is for the learner to attain the knowledge and practical competence required to deal with a range of Paediatric first aid situations.

Ofsted and the Early Years Foundation Stage

This two-day qualification fulfils the requirements for first aid training detailed in the Department for Education’s statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage.

A range of subjects are covered including:

• Role of the Paediatric First Aider • Seizure • Diabetic emergencies • Primary survey •Choking • Asthma • Resuscitation (CPR including the safe use of an AED) • Minor injuries •Meningitis • Wounds, bleeding and shock • Recovery position • Febrile convulsions • Allergic reactions including anaphylaxis • Fractures • Extreme cold and heat • Head, neck and back injuries • Foreign bodies • Electrical incidents

Assessment & Certification

The qualification is assessed both through practical demonstration and written assessment. A learner must successfully pass both the written and practical assessments to achieve the qualification.

The qualification is valid for three years from the date of achievement. It is recommended that the learner attends annual refresher training. The learner will need to complete the full course again to requalify for a further three years.

The cost of the course is £110 per person. This includes certification, a course book, as well as a light lunch and refreshments on both days of training.
